Free RemNote to Anki Converter

Turn text written in RemNote's flashcard syntax into a clean Anki .apkg deck. Basic, concept, cloze and multi-line cards supported.

Already have the cards in RemNote?

RemNote can export straight to Anki, and that's usually the best route. Open the document, click the three-dot menu, choose Export, then Anki (Flashcards Only). Use this converter when you want cards without RemNote's parent breadcrumbs, or when you have notes written in RemNote syntax that never went into RemNote.

Lines with >>, ==, <<, <>, ::, ;; or an arrow become Basic cards. Lines with {{double braces}} become cloze cards. Lines without either are treated as notes and skipped.

How to export from RemNote

  1. Open the RemNote document, click the three-dot menu in the upper right and choose Export. For everything at once, go to Settings then Export.
  2. Pick Anki (Flashcards Only) for a ready .apkg. If you want cards without the parent breadcrumbs, pick Text instead.
  3. Open the text file and check that each card still shows a marker (>>, ::, an arrow) or cloze braces. If it does, upload it above and click Convert & Download .apkg.

Export options from RemNote's exporting notes article and card syntax from importing flashcards from text, both checked 1 October 2026.

Supported RemNote syntax

  • Basic cards: Question >> Answer, plus ==, << and <>. The left side goes on the front.
  • Concept and descriptor cards: Term :: Definition and Term ;; Description.
  • Cloze cards: The {{Golgi}} packages proteins. Each pair of braces becomes its own cloze, and RemNote hints written as {({hint})} become Anki hints.
  • Multi-line and list cards: Question >>> or Question >>1. with the answers indented underneath. The indented lines go on the back, one per line.

What carries over

  • Card text for every line with a flashcard marker or cloze.
  • Parent bullets are not added as context. RemNote's own Anki export keeps them. This converter gives you just the card.
  • Multiple-choice options come across as a list on the back, since Anki has no multiple-choice card type.
  • Images, image occlusion and review history don't come across.

Troubleshooting

  • "We couldn't find any term/definition pairs": none of the lines had a flashcard marker or cloze braces. Check the export kept the >> or :: between question and answer.
  • Front and back look reversed: RemNote's << makes a backward card, but this converter always puts the left side on the front. Swap the sides before converting if that matters.
  • A multi-line card is missing: its answers need to be indented further than the question line.

The native export is covered step by step in the guide on how to export RemNote flashcards to Anki.

RemNote to Anki Converter FAQs

Can RemNote export to Anki without a converter?

Yes. RemNote's Export menu has an Anki (Flashcards Only) option that saves an .apkg file. This converter is for text in RemNote syntax, or for cards without RemNote's parent context.

Which RemNote flashcard types does this support?

Basic cards (>>, ==, <<, <>), concept cards (::), descriptor cards (;;), cloze cards ({{...}}) including hints, and multi-line or list cards with indented answers.

Is this RemNote to Anki converter free?

Yes. There's no signup and no watermark, up to 2,000 cards and 1 MB per conversion.

Do RemNote images transfer?

No. The converter reads text only, so images and image occlusion cards need RemNote's own Anki export or rebuilding in Anki.
