How to export flashcards from Notion

  1. Open the database page that holds your flashcards, with the question in the Name column and the answer in another column.
  2. Click the ••• menu in the top right, choose Export, and pick Markdown & CSV. Notion downloads a .zip file.
  3. Unzip it, upload the .csv file above, and click Convert & Download .apkg.

Export steps from Notion's export help page, checked 1 October 2026. Notion exports full-page databases as CSV files.

How the columns are read

  • Front: a column named Question, Front, Term or Name. Notion's title column is called Name unless you renamed it.
  • Back: a column named Answer, Back, Definition or Meaning.
  • Everything else, like Tags, Status or Created time, is ignored, so there's no need to delete columns first.
  • Long answers with line breaks stay in one card.

What carries over

  • Text from the front and back columns.
  • Cloze cards: wrap the hidden part in double braces in Notion, like {{mitochondria}}, and the row becomes a cloze card.
  • Images and page content don't. If your answers live inside each database page rather than in a column, they aren't in the CSV.
  • Toggle-list flashcards aren't a database, so they don't export as CSV. Copy each toggle's heading and content into two spreadsheet columns and paste them into the box.

Troubleshooting

  • The upload was a .zip: unzip Notion's export first and upload the .csv inside.
  • Your column headers became a card, or tags ended up on the back: the converter didn't recognise your answer column. Rename it to Answer or Back in Notion, export again, and convert.

For toggle lists and other layouts, see the guide on how to export Notion flashcards to Anki.

Notion to Anki Converter FAQs

Can you export Notion flashcards to Anki?

Not directly, since Notion has no flashcard feature. If your cards are in a database, export it as Markdown and CSV, unzip the file, and upload the CSV here to get an Anki .apkg.

Which Notion columns does the converter use?

The front comes from a column called Question, Front, Term or Name, and the back from one called Answer, Back, Definition or Meaning. Other columns such as tags or dates are ignored.

Does it work with Notion toggle lists?

Not from the export file. Toggle lists aren't exported as two columns, so copy each question and answer into a spreadsheet and paste the two columns into the converter.

Is this Notion to Anki converter free?

Yes. There's no signup and no watermark, up to 2,000 cards and 1 MB per conversion.
