How to export from Quizlet

  1. On the Quizlet website, go to Your library, then Flashcard sets, and open the set.
  2. Click the more menu (the three dots) and choose Export. Quizlet asks how to separate terms, definitions and rows. A tab between term and definition and a new line between rows works best. Then click Copy text.
  3. Paste the text into the box above and click Convert & Download .apkg.

Quizlet only lets you export sets you created yourself, and only on the website, not in the app. If you saved a copy of someone else's set, the Export option won't be there.

What carries over

  • Terms and definitions become the front and back of Basic Anki cards.
  • Images and audio don't. Quizlet's export is text only.
  • Bold, italics and other formatting are removed. Line breaks inside a definition are kept.
  • Study progress stays in Quizlet. Anki treats every card as new.

Troubleshooting

  • "We couldn't find any term/definition pairs": pick the delimiter you chose in Quizlet's export box instead of Auto-detect.
  • Definitions cut off at a comma: export with Tab between term and definition. Commas are common inside definitions.
  • Some rows were skipped: those rows had a term but no definition. Fill them in on Quizlet and export again.

How do I import the downloaded .apkg file into Anki?

Open Anki desktop, click File then Import, and select the downloaded .apkg file. Your new deck will appear in your deck list.

Is there a limit on how many cards I can convert?

Yes, up to 2,000 cards per conversion, which covers the vast majority of Quizlet sets.

Can I make cloze cards?

Yes. Wrap the hidden part of a card in double curly braces, like {{Paris}} is the capital of France, and that row becomes an Anki cloze card.
