About StudyCards AI

StudyCards AI turns your PDFs and notes into Anki-ready flashcard decks in about a minute. It exists to remove the slowest part of studying with spaced repetition: making the cards. The tool is built around evidence-based learning principles, active recall and spaced repetition, so the decks it produces are designed to be studied, not just generated.

Why we built it

Manual flashcard creation is the bottleneck that makes most students abandon Anki. Hours spent typing cloze deletions and formatting question-and-answer pairs is time not spent actually reviewing. StudyCards AI automates the card-making step and hands you a native .apkg file you import into Anki the normal way, so your time goes into retrieval practice instead of data entry.

The study science behind it

Our writing and our product are grounded in the research on how memory works. Spaced repetition schedules reviews just before you are likely to forget, which resets the forgetting curve and moves knowledge into long-term memory. Active recall, retrieving an answer from memory rather than re-reading it, strengthens retention far more than passive review. Where we cite statistics in our guides, we link to primary sources such as peer-reviewed studies so you can check the claims yourself.

Who writes this blog

Charlie Groves

Founder, StudyCards AI

Charlie is the founder and developer of StudyCards AI, which he built and runs as a solo founder. He writes the guides on this blog about Anki, spaced repetition, active recall, and using AI to study more efficiently, drawing on building the tool and working directly with the students who use it. You can find more of his work at charliegroves.com.

The medical and exam-specific guides on this site (for example USMLE, NCLEX, and pharmacology decks) describe general, widely documented study strategies. They are not medical advice, and they are not a substitute for your course materials or official exam resources.
